Hawken Farm- Thursday

On thursday, the cement finished drying which gave the Chicken coup a very solid foundation. We finished putting in the frame supports early that morning. We used 2 by 4 pieces of wood and bracketed them to the posts. We had to keep them level which was probably the hardest thing to do with only two people. After we finished doing this, we used the table saw to cut large pieces of plywood to make the floor and roof of the chicken coup. We had to cut divots in the corners to create a tight fit and form the plywood around the posts. We secured the floor and roof with screws. After this, we went into the wood shop. We took a 4 foot by 8 foot plywood sheet and cut two doors for the front wall of the chicken coup. We made two doors in the front wall. On the right half, we made a 2 foot by 2 1/2 foot door which will allow for the chickens to come in and out of the chicken coup on the ramp we made. The other door on the left side is 2 foot by 3 foot and is used to clean the chicken coup. This door had to be larger in order to let the caretaker access to the chicken coup nesting beds and the floor of the chicken coup.
