Day 1
Today I arrived at Family Promise of Greater Cleveland where I reunited with the workers from the winter. I was given an introduction to the program and was informed about the rules and regulations of the volunteers and workers. After that i was taught how to answer the phone and how to handle upset homeless people looking for help. I thought this was hard to first get use to and know it will take practice to avoid my emotions and to handle the calls professionally. Then I sat in on a intake of a family and got an understanding of how an intake works. Next I helpped the tenant with her laundry at the laundrymat next door. There i talked to the new tenant about life and how its hard to be a single parent with two kids. I saw just how expensive washing clothes is. The common luxuary we all have of washing our clothes for others is something they can not do all the time. Today i saw how a peice of reality of being homeless just by not being able to washi your clothes.
